More efficient safety

While everyone dreams of self-driving cars, a young Flemish duo opts for a more niche option: the self-driving tram and train. With artificial intelligence, the start-up OTIV from Ghent takes the first steps towards safer and more efficient rail transport.

The concept demonstrates the possibilities of 5G through a concrete demo. Through Orange Fab, there is a collaboration with OTIV, which develops autonomous technology for railways. Thanks to cameras and AI, OTIV can detect and identify obstacles on the tracks. It includes an interactive demonstration of this technology.

The design and execution came from our own studio and production, and the entire concept was seamlessly carried out in collaboration with these parties.

Our assignment

We were asked to design a locomotive with space for one person. This locomotive will push a freight car, resulting in no visibility of what is happening in front of the train.

Inside the locomotive, there will be a screen where the person can see what the OTIV camera at the front of the train registers. A track will be laid out for the train, allowing people to walk through the room, so they can be recognised by the cameras.

Orange Otiv Locomotiv production

To ensure the client doesn't have to worry, we fully developed and produced this concept ourselves. We also handled the assembly, ensuring everything ran smoothly, allowing the client to focus on other matters without stressing over the details.

Result

The final product is a great success. Thanks to careful material selection and a well-thought-out design, it is both sturdy and durable. Moreover, it perfectly reflects the original concept.
