What are 3D holograms?
A hologram is a special way of displaying a three-dimensional image without the need for a physical object. Instead of a regular photo or video, a hologram appears to float in space as if you could almost touch it. This effect is created by cleverly using light and reflection.
Currently, there are several ways to display holograms. At LX Concept, we can offer you the Pepper's Ghost effect.
What is the Pepper's Ghost effect?
The Pepper’s Ghost effect is a clever optical illusion that brings a floating, semi-transparent holographic image to life. This technique – often used in theatres, museums, and holographic displays – uses a slanted glass plate or film to reflect a hidden image. This creates the illusion that the image is truly floating in space.
How does it work?
- A hidden screen is placed in a dark space, out of sight of the audience. This can be a video recording or a digital image.
- A transparent plate of glass or acrylic is placed at a 45-degree angle between the hidden source and the viewer.
- The light reflection of the image on the glass makes it appear as though the image is floating in space. This happens because the glass allows some light to pass through and reflects part of it.
- The environment behind the glass plate is dark, which enhances the reflection and makes the illusion of a hologram clearer. This effect works best in low ambient light and becomes less visible in bright light, such as direct sunlight.
